The issues that threaten the viability of our health care system on a national basis have been brewing in California for decades.

Our organization, CHW, has worked tirelessly in communities that other health care providers have abandoned, like downtown L.A.

The skyrocketing numbers of uninsured have put impossible pressures on the system: emergency rooms are crowded with people who have nowhere else to go, preventive care is disappearing, and the cost of this is being borne by fewer and fewer.

Despite the difficulty that we face on a daily basis, the 53,000 people of CHW remain energized and optimistic that reform can be achieved, and that our real-world experience can help inform the important work being done in Washington.
